Chromebook orientation

For new students and their families, and, for returning students and their families who need a refresher...
Please complete the following:
1. Edpuzzle (right below).
2. Review the "Please note" section.
3. Review the "PHS Chromebook Orientation" Slide Deck.
4. If you have not yet done so, please visit our Virtual Patriot New Student Orientation at:
https://phspatriots.libguides.com/newstudentorientation
5. You can visit our ASPEN Family Portal informational site to get more information for families to help monitor attendance and academic progress for your student.
6. If you have not yet picked up your Chromebook device, please have your parent/guardian complete THIS FORM and then our student will visit our main office. From there, our student will visit our Patriot Library to receive their device.
7. If you are in need making a request for a schedule change, please click on this: Request Form Link (if this form is closed, you'll email your Guidance Counselor directly).
8. Need assistance with a damaged Chromebook device?
  • If you are a Full-time Distance Learner, a guardian must complete THIS FORM and make an appointment to bring the damaged device to the school's main office during regular school hours. A loaner will be provided. You will receive an email from the library when your Chromebook is repaired and ready for pick-up.
  • If you are a Hybrid Learner, you may go straight to our PHS Patriot Library to fill out the online form and exchange your damaged Chromebook for a loaner. You will receive an email from the library when your Chromebook is repaired and ready for pick-up.

These are all self-paced activities below:
Please Note: Updates to the above screencast...
1. If you forget your Chromebook, we do not give out loaners in this situation. Please remember your Chromebook! Update: 9/23/2020 -- All students will have access to a Chromebook, if a student needs one, they will head to our library and check one out.
2. Stickers directly on the Chromebook is NOT allowed anymore. If you purchase a shell casing, you can put stickers on the shell, but again, not on our device.
3. An auto-update happens only when a student power-refreshes their device on a regular basis.
4. First screen breakage may not be free due to these devices not being insured. Financial obligation may exist.
5. New Student Login Issues? Please email marumt@portsmouthschoolsri.org
6. For returning students: Student Password Resets: Please click here to have your network/Google or Student Aspen Portal password reset.
7. We no longer have a Bring Your Own Device in effect at the high school. Please use our district-issued Chromebook.
8. If you have not yet picked up your Chromebook device, please have your parent/guardian complete THIS FORM and then our student will visit our main office. From there, our student will visit our Patriot Library to receive their device.
9. If you have not yet done so, please visit our Virtual Patriot New Student Orientation at:
https://phspatriots.libguides.com/newstudentorientation
10. Are you a parent/guardian in need of technical assistance? Please complete THIS FORM and someone will be in contact with you to help resolve any issues.

Tips for Maintaining Your Chromebook...

1. Conduct a "power refresh"

This should be done on a DAILY basis. My suggestion is to do this prior to the start of your first-period class, every day.

2. Update your Chrome OS
Please visit THIS LINK to review how to do this and complete the steps as outlined. You may need to do this multiple times, up until Chrome OS version number 86... or until you see something similar to this:

Alternatively, just follow these steps:
  1. Once logged in, select the time in the bottom right corner.
  2. Select Settings .
  3. At the bottom of the left panel, select About Chrome OS.
  4. Under "Google Chrome OS," you'll find which version of the Chrome operating system your Chromebook uses.
  5. Select Check for updates.
  6. If your Chromebook finds a software update, it will start to download automatically.

3. Tips for Fixing Common Chromebook Problems
Our colleague, Ms. Sarah DelSanto has created "Tips for Fixing Common Chromebook Problems." -- it is encouraged that this is reviewed and the steps are tried prior to seeking out more assistance.
